Gaining Steam

Oct. 25th, 2009 | 09:09 pm

This quarter has been very strange and disappointing, but I feel like I'm finally starting to gain momentum. I have a clear view of want I want to do for all of my final projects at this point, and I'm really excited about all of them. Even the still lifes. It's going to be a lot of work, but I really REALLY want to come out with a lot of portfolio worthy pieces. I would love enough images to have another show. Let's hope my ideas come out as good as they sound in my head. Here are a few things that have inspired me lately.

There are surprisingly a lot of great artists on Flickr. Found this photo by Ilze Vanaga on a photo blog, I think.

The new series, Moonmilk by Ryan McGinley is absolutely beautiful. It's the main inspiration for my final studio project.

Shot by Jeff Luker.

Rutsville

It's been a pretty weird quarter so far. Studio Lighting sucks. I don't have a lot of patience or interest in doing still life photography or working with elaborate lighting setups. I really like Intro to Film, which is sort of making me question my decision to major in photo over film. I enjoy it, but it doesn't excite me like film does. I don't think I would be exceptionally talented at film, either. There's always grad school?

Almost DONE

May. 20th, 2009 | 02:11 am

So with only a week and a half left, I think I'm finally done with my final. Here are the last few images, not all of them will go into the final portfolio. Thanks so much again to everyone who helped out. I only wish I had more time to shoot more people.

Another quarter

May. 5th, 2009 | 10:10 pm

So, I suck at Large Format...

I'm going to be shooting/developing like crazy these next three weeks. I'll probably be asking some of you to model for me. Volunteers would be really appreciated!

Winding Down

Mar. 5th, 2009 | 12:26 am

Almost done with finals, just one more shoot to go. Here's a few from the last one. Going for a more summery feel with these.

God, I don't feel like printing.

New Shit

Feb. 23rd, 2009 | 04:02 pm

So, these are some of the photos I shot this weekend. Definitely not as happy with this set, but I did find a great location to shoot at later. There are a few I really like. I think the clothes just aren't as interested (they were from Civvies), and plus I wanted to go a little more casual with these. I think you all will recognize the male model.

Magazine Idea

Feb. 18th, 2009 | 06:45 pm

So instead of printing and matting my final project like usual, I think I'm going to make a magazine on lulu. Since all of the clothes are used and recycled, that's what the magazines going to be about. Any name ideas? My artist statement is going to be the letter from the editor, etc etc. Oh, and Darius is designing this dress made of coke cans and I'll probably stick an ad in there using that.

Picked out clothes tonight for the next shoot from Civvies and it's going to be sooo awesome.

Project Seminarrrr

Jan. 20th, 2009 | 11:09 pm

This quarter I have to work on making one strong portfolio by the end of the quarter. Went to the Clothing Warehouse again and checked out over $700 of great clothes. We shot all day and it was pretty superr. I've never worked with animals so that was a little challenging. Tell me what y'all think.

Progress

Oct. 21st, 2008 | 11:41 pm

I'm so fucking nervous/excited about my exhibition. I really don't know how I'm going to get everything done. It's going to be Thursday, Nov 6th at 7:00 at Live Wire Music Hall in case ya forgot. I expect you all to be there.

I've decided on a theme for my Color Technique final project. It's sort of in the same vein as my Identity series. It's going to be a series of portraits where the face is cut off or obstructed in some way. We had a discussion in class about the effects of cutting off at the neck and how the face is the "window to the soul". It's going to be tough, but there's a few I've done so far that I really like.

Any criticisms or suggestions? Please!

Clothing Warehouse

Oct. 3rd, 2008 | 10:39 pm

So, I have some exciting news for once. The Dimensions Gallery invited me to have a solo exhibition at the LiveWire Music Hall on River Street. It's going to be hard and expensive to get everything together, but I think it'll be really cool. I'll let you guys know what day the reception is. Everyone better come! (There's gonna be a cash bar.)

Here are some pictures I did for the Clothing Warehouse. We went in and picked out some clothes. It was really fun, but I don't know if they're going to go up in the dressing rooms anymore since the previous manager resigned. Bummer...

fashion show

Sep. 21st, 2008 | 11:23 pm

Savannah is a lot more tolerable now that everyone is back.

Here's a few shots I took at the Clothing Warehouse fashion show. I don't really like doing events, but you do what you gotta do. They also let me take pictures for their dressing rooms, which was really fun. I'll post those soon.

Touch-upz?

Jul. 14th, 2008 | 06:32 pm

Haven't had much to update on the past few weeks. Life in Savannah is unexciting, but I've moved in to my new place and am pretty happy where I'm at. I have applied to so many goddamn places, but haven't heard back from anyone. I need a JOB!

I've been playing around with different ways to touch-up a portrait on Photoshop. This is not something I usually like to do. With every picture, I might remove really obvious or distracting blemishes, but I typically don't go this far. Some clients may want me to do it, so I figured I should start practicing now.

Here's a BEFORE:

And AFTER:

I know the differences are slight (check the eyes, skin, eyelashes, lips), buttt whatever. It just aint my thang.

Let's take pictures.

Back Home

mood: relaxed relaxed

SO I'm back home, and it kind of sucks. I miss Savannah and a certain someone. It is good to see my friends again, though. Another good thing about being home is that I get more time to take photos. Here are a few that I took of Wenli. Let me know what you think!

B&W Final

May. 26th, 2008 | 11:04 pm

So, I'm finally done with my Black and White Technique final. I chose to take portraits of men in found settings. Male portraits are typically overlooked and under appreciated, so I knew it would be a challenge. Needless to say, I'm not very happy with the way this turned out. I lost a really good roll and somehow two rolls of negatives were partially exposed. I'll be so happy to start color and eventually get back to my digital work. Thank fucking God.

I'll upload the rest later. Maybe.
